Recognized for its innovative approach to the classics through musical adaptations created for minority audiences with little or no theatregoing experience, the company has served over 85,000 students, teachers, and families since 1995.

Who We Serve

East L.A. Classic Theatre's programs target students at underserved schools in socio-economically marginalized neighborhoods and minority communities. Supporting the efforts of public schools to provide opportunities for students to achieve academic success and social competency, ECT's programming addresses risk factors such as:

• early academic failure
• lack of literacy and speaking skills
• lack of commitment to school
• negative vision of the future
• negative peer relationships
• poor behavioral models

Participating students and their families are challenged with community risk factors such as:

• poverty and unemployment
• poor/limited English skills
• neighborhood instability
• prejudice and discrimination
• lack of opportunities to participate in American culture
• conflicts between dominant and minority values/culture

East L.A. Classic Theatre is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization bringing classic theater and educational programs into the schools.
