Our Productions
In the early 1990s, ECT’s production debut was a Mexican-American adaptation of Eugene O’Neill’s A Touch of the Poet. Later productions included The Price, Mirandolina and Hedda Gabler.
Using these adult productions as a launching pad, Tony Plana, Executive Artistic Director, began adapting Shakespeare for youth based on his conviction that theater and theater education can transform the lives of young people. Having studied Shakespeare at London’s Royal Academy, Tony’s vision was to demystify one of the most prolific writers in the English language and empower students of color to excel in their education through the arts.
Later productions including A Midsummer Night’s Dream and a pop-musical adaptation of Twelfth Night gave students from elementary to high school the unique opportunity of experiencing professional, classical theater.
Today, such productions have been augmented from merely being viewed on stage to being experienced in a dynamic way by students most in need in the community.
ECT's
current theatre productions of Much Ado About Nothing
- Mariachi Style! and Romeo & Juliet - A Zoot Suit Musical continue to attract a
diverse, inter-generational audience with great enthusiasm.
